Did you like Super Troopers 1? If not, don’t bother reading this or seeing this movie because you won’t like the second one, as it is essentially more of the same. I don’t mean that in a bad way though. In this instance, it is a pretty good thing. Many if not most comedy sequels rely on the old jokes and fail because they fail to improve upon them. This movie paid homage more than rehashed which worked well. With a steady stream of laughs, the movie builds upon what you expect from the characters and often elevates them, comedically, from what we saw before. The Mounties played very well against the troopers and I enjoyed that banter more than the first one’s banter with the local police. Much like the first movie, Kevin Heffernan stole the movie. His character of Farva is a complete idiot and he plays the role to perfection.
Is it funny? Yes. Is it the best comedy ever made? Not even close, that can’t be a serious question anyone would ask. Is it better than the first one? Not really. While it does have a lot of the same charm and comedy as the first, it isn’t as novel as the characters were when we first saw them, and it loses something because of that.
