This didn’t live up to the previous two films, but it was solid. There was never any doubt the character Amanda was going to have a major part in the Saw games in this entry into the series, but I wasn’t sure how good of an idea that was. I am pleased to say my worries were for naught. Amanda’s involvement was integral here, but negated a bit in future movies. The Amanda character was explored much more here and although Shawnie Smith played the role of crazy well, the character depth was lacking. As for the Jigsaw games, they were okay. Not much stood out in the way of traps although the freezer scene was cool and if I was to choose a best, it would be the rack which was cringe inducing.
Overall it moved the overarching story along, but not in a real meaningful way since while some of the things shown here were important in the overall story, their importance wasn’t shown until several movies down the line through flashbacks. This isn’t the best in the franchise, but is one of the more consistent throughout, not counting the first one of course.
