This movie has been on my to-watch list for years. For one reason or another, I always skipped it. After watching it, I can see the appeal and it doesn’t surprise me people rate it highly, but I didn’t find it that amazing. I did like it and truthfully liked much of it very much, but it wasn’t quite all there for me.
The story was interesting overall and during one of the big reveals I realized I had my hand over my mouth in shock. Who does that? I can’t recall ever doing that in my life. That is the type of thing this movie had going for it. There were lots of surprises and while many were way out of left field, they didn’t really seem forced. The actors did well for the most part, but the villain fell flat for me. While I hated what his character did, it was because of the things he did and not because of how he was portrayed. This was a good movie and at times a great movie, but weirdly it wasn’t good enough for me to want to seek out anything else done by the filmmakers and I don’t think I would need to see it again.
On a fun side note, the guy playing the villain’s henchman was the dad on The Sound of Your Heart TV show in which he is hilarious. This made it a bit hard to take him seriously here. If you haven’t seen that show, you should check it out.
