Lady Bird is a well-made, well-acted movie the led nowhere. I didn’t dislike it, but I didn’t like it either. It was kind of just a waste of time. Maybe that is a bit harsh, because I did enjoy Saoirse Ronan’s performance and will look up some of her other movies. I have seen a few from when she was younger, but don’t recall her. Her performance couldn’t save this though. A telling sign for me is usually how long a movie felt to me. This one felt long and I would have guessed at least 2 hours, but it was only 1:34 which shows how much of a snoozer this was. I also felt they tried to put too many situations in the girl’s life for a movie. They short-changed some things by trying to do too much. I can see how it got the two best actress nominations (though I’m not sure I would have chosen them), but the best picture and screenplay are odd choices to me.
