Airborne is teen movie from the early 90’s about a surfer from California being sent to live in Cincinnati where he must adjust to life away from the ocean. It co-stars a young Seth Green who looks pretty much the same as he does now and a very young-looking Jack Black.
I figured with the cast containing two comedic actors I like very much and the subject matter being close to other movies I loved such as Rad and Gleaming the Cube, I was sure to like this. I was wrong. I wouldn’t say that I disliked it exactly. I wasn’t upset I watched it, but I was just bored. It had a few funny moments including a trying on clothes montage with Seth acting goofy, but most of the movie was contrived and predictable. The pacing was god awful and most of the Rollerblade scenes were poorly shot, uninventive, and overly long. The final Rollerblading sequence, which was the climax, was the worst and by the end I was rooting for the “bad guys” to prevail just for something interesting to happen.
Also, the poster had 3 stupid taglines. One wasn’t bad enough so they added two more. “Man wasn’t mean to fly, kids were.” “Mitchell became the most popular guy on earth…once he took to the sky.” “Heroes aren’t made, they’re Airborne.” Wow, just wow.
